Originally from Cambridge but now happily lodged in the North East, I posess equally compusive loves for music and utilising unnecessarily large words, neither of which are sufficiently satisfied by my forays in to Durham Archaeology or current slog though an Engineering Geology MSc at Newcastle University. Most of my favourite bands fall in to the category of 'acquired taste'. My other excuses for 'taking a break' from the dissertation include contemporary dance, sketching, singing, being disappointed by the state of the modern novel, acquring instruments which I cannot play to any passable level and avoiding organised sport at any cost.
At some point in later life I will get around to penning the dire comedy script that I have spent the last 23 years dreaming up.

Darren Hubbard
Darren runs a po-faced Newcastle-based record label that you probably haven't heard of. He doesn't particularly like to give much away. He suggests that you read Chunklet magazine
instead of his inane scribings.

Ewan McIntyre
Like all the best music journalist, Ewan is a failed musician. Since the late eighties, he's been many low quality bands, both in the North West and the North East of England. The most memorable being mid-nineties Brit Pop also-rans The Stories, whose shambolic, drunken gigs are cherished by the three people who turned up to the Riverside to watch them.
Now old and bitter, Ewan enjoys nothing more than criticising those who clearly have more talent than he does.
Ewan likes the work of: Wire, Velvet Underground, Galaxie 500, Stereolab, Spacemen 3, Holy Fuck, Jonathan Richman
Ewan is a very, very occasional DJ at PopKlubb, but they don't seem to ask him back anymore.

Matt Marlow
Originally from Oxford, he graduated in English Language and Literature from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2007.
In his last year at University he was co-Music Editor for Pulp Magazine, the University's Entertainments Magazine, and upon graduating took on the role of Events Organiser for the first annual Oxjam Festival to raise money for Oxfam through gigs.
He is the singer-guitarist in the local alt-rock outfit, Strangers in Polaroids (www.strangersinpolaroids.com), an also has an acoustic project and gig promotions company under the name Waiting for Winter (www.myspace.com/waitingforwinterpromo).
He is mostly interested in discovering new bands and currently recommends:
Dive Dive, Subplots, Rose Kemp, Her Space Holiday, Spies in Limbo, The Winchell Riots, Richard Walters, This Town Needs Guns, Ally Craig, The Half Rabbits, Wintermute, These Monsters, Lanterns on the Lake, Shin Jin Rui, The Eye Jab, Grammatics, Copy Haho, The Flowers of Evil, This Et Al, uTe, Youthmovies, Pulled Apart By Horses, Kill Kenada, Minotaurs, Caroline Martin, Future of the Left, 50ft Panda, Hreda...

Matt Young
Alongside reviewing and managing bands Matt Young also oversees record label Mekong Delta (www.mekongdelta.co.uk) which promotes quality music in the North East and beyond. Musically he likes anything from worldwide pop genius to introverted post-rock fury and he's a sucker for a hummable tune. Beyond that there's always time for scary ass horror films, 'world cinema' with an edge and a continual stream of biographies and fiction to read. He doesn't drink, smoke or laugh but does take herbal baths in the country.

Hallo. I like to sing and play guitar. I've done it for quite a while now, sometimes in front of people, sometimes alone. Got a couple of CDs out, another one on the way. I also make music under the name Eyeballs. Got one CDR out on Blackest Rainbow and another three due over the next few months, all on really fine DIY labels. I work in alt.vinyl record shop in Newcastle - come and say hullo if you like. I'll make you a cup of coffee. I intermittently write for the Vapours, which at the moment exists only online but will soon exist on a very tangible molecular level. I had a small speaking role in the timeless movie, 'Purely Belter'. I am a proud uncle.
Music-wise, at the moment I'm particularly into: Circle, Boredoms, Eyvind Kang, Gas, Eliane Radigue. The folks from round here getting me most moist: Bong, The Big Oaks, Jazzfinger, Matinee Orchestra, Nev Clay, OCDC, Trev Gibb, Khunnt. www.myspace.com/richardmdawson / www.myspace.com/eyeballsmusic

When not walking the dog, or being a disgraceful drunk and a hermit, I like to listen to The Replacements, Elliott Smith and The Lemonheads. That's about it to be honest.
