The Molotovs – Flowers
Words: Craig Wilson
Flowers could have been made by any number of bands at any time over the past thirty years. It has elements of the Undertones, Smiths, Wedding Present, Libertines, Arctic Monkeys. At this stage in their careers, the Molotovs seem to avoiding originality like it's painful. Imitation is not a bad thing in itself, as all bands borrow from the acts that influence them. They hopefully go on to find their own voice. But it's sometimes worth avoiding them until they've found that voice. At this moment, I can imagine the Molotovs going down VERY well at an all-ages afternoon bash. But on this evidence it's worth waiting to see what they come up with in a few years time as this indie-by-numbers earwash is hardly incendiary.
